Everywhere i read the ZZR600 is pre 03'. As where the ZX6R is newer. My questions is this. Whats the difference between the 2 bikes? Only think i see is color options and 1k more in price.

I wouldn't make a new thread if i found this information. Reason im looking at the 2 bikes is due to the fact the 250r just gets blown around on the highway, while i look at cruiser and 600 sport bikes. They seem to have no problem at all.

I think getting blown around on the hwy has more to do with the weight of the bike you're on. My zzr does better than my zx6r on a windy day but it weighs around 100lbs more.
As far as the differance. The ZZR600 from 93 to 04 is the same bike with no differance whatsoever. It is also a SportTouring Bike versus the ZX6R which would be a Sportbike. Ergonomically the ZZR is more comfortable esspecialy on longer rides. You sit more uprite on it.
The ZX6R is sportier and you are leaned over more on it. It weigh about 339 dry if I remeber correctly, I may be off by 10 lbs but close.
As far as power, with after market upgrades the ZZR can realy hold it's own next to the ZX6R (IMO)

You realy need to decide what kind of riding you are going to be doing. Sit on both of them and see what feels best. That and the price tag for the ZZR is much nicer.

Oh and the 05 and 06 ZZR is the same as the older ZX6R (02 and 03 I think) with differant clipons (for ergo reasons) I do believe. I hope this helps. They are both great bikes!

thanks for all the info. I have sat on both and they both have the same riding positions. I can both sit up on both. But both had that lean forward feel :p

hey iamm i just sold my 05zzr a few months ago and i now have a zx6r.
the zzr felt front heavy for me but it was an awsome first bike and had a sweet amount of power and the only mods preformance related that i did was a k&n air filter and different spark plugs..
once i hoped off the zzr to the zx6r i felt like a champ.. the zzr was my first bike. since u been riding i would do the zx6r.. but rember the zzr rides more comfterbal ..so in conclusion if u in it for the speed and the twisties go for the zx62..
hope this helped

Well... it depends on which ZZR600 and which ZX-6r we're talking about... The '04 and earlier ZZR600 is the same bike as the ZX6E... They are both a model ZX600E. The '05-'08 ZZR600 and the '00-02 ZX6-6r are both ZX600J, and there are a few minor differences between the two I've discovered... the dampers in the fork are different, as is the rear shock. the ZX6r version also had a coolant loop through the carbs, the ZZR600 does not. There is a difference in the fairing stay as well. I don't know if there is a difference in the clip-ons or not.

The '05-'08 ZZR600 is a vastly better bike than a 250R, the wind protection is far superior, but it is not windy-day proof... There have been days this season where it was difficult to control mine due to the wind.

The differences between a '08ZZR600 and an '08 or '09 ZX6r is basically 8 years of technical improvement... lighter, better suspension (the '09 especially) fuel injection, etc. I've not ridden either '6r to give a better comparison...

He isn't joking here. I got some good scares by strong crosswind on hill/mountain tops on the 250R and the same gusts barely phase me on the ZZR600. Differences on the interstate also the same: I no longer notice large trucks. It's a much wider bike.

basically the 2005 zzr600 is the old 2003 zx6 with a new name tag because it was a good enough design to keep.

it's the '00-02 ZX-6r, 599cc... the '03 was the first year of the 636.... they only look the same on the surface...

crap . i didnt post the 2003 model 636, thats the 599 version from 2002 ?

This all gets very confusing.

They offered 636 AND 599 but they didnt make very many 599 because only track people where buying them to meet track class regulations.

No.

That is the '03-'04. Allow me to introduce the '05-'06 (also please note this pic is a Euro model - the US models came with stick-out type clear turn signals, not orange flushmounts as shown in the picture):

I think Kawasaki came un stuck with the 636 and put zzr600 engine in it to sell in America. Ps they was not allowed to race in the world super sport championships so they had to come up with something very quick so they put a xx6r fairing on a zzr600
